At Looking Glass Day Nursery and Preschool babies and families are welcomed into our light, spacious rooms where we provide the perfect introduction to nursery life. Babies can join us from 3 months of age where we have a comfortable staff ratio of 1:3.
Our baby rooms are a wonderful sensorial experience full of textures, light and creativity where our babies are encouraged to be freely creative and are provided with a vast range of quality materials and resources to stimulate and inspire their young developing minds. All of our babies have access to their own secure garden where they can enjoy sunshine and fresh air. As they start finding their feet, the soft natural grass and special safety surfacing is the perfect place to practice on!
You will notice our babies rooms have minimal adult furniture to encourage the children to crawl in a safe nurturing environment. We have wonderful treasure baskets full to the brim of natural, washable everyday objects rich in different textures for babies to grasp and manipulate. Lighting and mirrors are also part of the babies’ rooms enabling them to experiment with shadows and reflections. We make sure our furnishings are at baby’s level to encourage them to either see inside or pull up on.
All our baby room staff plan experiences based on the Government's Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This framework values and celebrates the care and education for children and babies aged 0 to 5 years by recognising them as skilful and competent. The principles of EYFS affirm our child centred approach and highlight the importance of relationships in a baby's development.
Each baby’s dedicated Key Person will ensure that all of their requirements are met – you can always be assured that you and your baby will meet a familiar face at the start of every day. In addition to each baby’s individual communication book and daily communication sheet, our staff look forward to and value the time they have to chat with each family. Twice a year families will receive a more formal written progress report highlighting their baby’s strengths and successes in relation to the aspects of the national framework.
